It has no screen, no buttons and nothing to charge — the only metal on it is the stud that holds the strap shut. The chip is sealed inside the band while it is cast, so there is nothing to prise out and nothing to let water in.

09Straight answers
Questions.
Do I need a smartphone for this to work?
Not for the band itself. It has no battery and needs no signal — the customer’s phone does all the work. You will want a phone to check what came in and to set yourself up in the first place.
Do I need a bank account?
Yes. Your money goes into a real account in your name, which is the whole point — nobody stands between you and it. If you do not have one yet, tell us when you sign up and we will point you at the quickest way to open one.
Can my manager take a cut?
No. The money is paid into your account, not the venue’s. ZEED does not do pooled tips and there is no step where somebody else handles your money first.
What if the customer’s phone cannot tap?
Most phones sold in the last few years can, though some budget handsets still cannot. If theirs cannot, your ZEED page is an ordinary web link, so they can open it the normal way and pay from there.
What happens if I lose the band?
Tell us and we switch that band off. From that moment nobody can collect anything on it, and we get a new one linked to you.
Will it survive a shift?
It is one solid piece of platinum-cure silicone with the chip sealed inside, shut with a stainless stud — no seams, no battery, nothing to charge. Wear it in the dishwater.
